On 5 March 2025, the International Club of Annapolis will host Ambassador Jean
Bosco Barege of Burundi.

Burundi is a small landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley between the African Great
Lakes and Southeast Africa. It is a poor country based on subsistence agriculture. Like
neighboring Rwanda, its two major ethnic groups are Hutu ( 85%) and Tutsi (14%).
Burundi troops are fighting the Rwanda-backed M23 rebels in the Congo.
Ambassador Barege has extensive experience as the Head of Burundian Missions
across multiple countries (Uganda, Kenya) since June 2012. He has served as Deputy
Chief of State Protocol in the office of the President from May 2022 – December 2023.
Prior to his diplomatic service, Ambassador Barege worked in various departments of
the Ministry of Public Service, Labor and Employment.

He holds a BA in English Language and literature.
