Ambassador Ndumiso Ntshinga of South Africa

On Wednesday, March 6, our speaker was Ambassador Ndumiso Ntshinga of South Africa. After South Africa freed itself from Apartheid in 1994, the country became a beacon of hope based on its Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Ambassador Ndumiso Ntshinga is the Acting Head of Mission at the Embassy of South Africa in Washington D.C.. He is a distinguished career diplomat who retired from public service in December 2022. As Deputy Director-General for Africa from 2019-2022, he coordinated the hosting of peace talks between Ethiopia and the Tigray People Liberation Front which led to the cessation of hostilities. He also served as Deputy Director-General for the Americas and Europe.

Prior to the advent of democracy and freedom in 1994, Ambassador Ntshinga represented the African National Congress in Australia, New Zealand and Tanzania.

More recently, he has represented South Africa in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, China, Mongolia, North Korea and the US (1995-1996) as well as at the UN Environment Program and UN-Habitat.

Ambassador Ntshinga holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria.  He was born in 1958.
