Ambassador Mohammed Idris of Sudan

On Wednesday 3 April 2024 we learned about Sudan – a nation with a military government battling the rebel Rapid Support Force and dealing with 7 million refugees and possible famine. Our speaker was Ambassador Mohammed Idris who presented his credentials to President Biden in 2022 after serving as Sudan’s Ambassador to the U.K..

Ambassador Idris served as State Minister for Foreign Affairs in 2019 after holding positions of increasing responsibility within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his diplomatic career, he represented the League of Arab States in Somalia and Egypt. He was a member of Sudan’s delegation to several peace talks with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.

Ambassador Idris obtained his Master of Arts in Peace and Development Studies from Juba University and his Diploma of International Relations from the University of Khartoum in 1995.

He was born in Abu Gubeila, Sudan.  He is married with four children.  He speaks his native Arabic and is fluent in English, Hausa and Swahili.
