Ambassador Jackson Soram of Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)

On Wednesday, 6 November, Jackson Soram, Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) will introduce us to his Pacific Island paradise and show us why it is critical for US Security. He is clearly a leader in the Pacific Islands.

Ambassador Soram’s diplomatic career began at the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs in 2002.  Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador worked on information, foreign affairs and multilateral affairs.

In 2013, he was appointed as Deputy Chief of Mission in Beijing. In 2016, he returned to Micronesia as Assistant Secretary for the Division for Asia, Pacific, Africa and Multilateral Affairs. In 2017, he moved to the Washington embassy as Deputy Chief of Mission and in 2023 he was appointed Ambassador.

He has served his government in various fields, including Oceans, Climate Change and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From 2020-2023, he served on the Negotiating Team on the Compacts of Free Association with the United States, which was renewed on 8 March 2024. He is the current Chairperson of the Working Group for the Pacific Island Conference of Leaders.

Ambassador Soram was awarded a BA in Political Science from Hawaii Pacific University.  He holds certificates in negotiations in international meetings, international security studies and international protocol and diplomacy.

He is married to Karnim Desire Judah Soram and has 4 children.
