Wednesday, June 7
On Wednesday, June 7, we were pleased to welcome Ambassador Furqat Sidikov of Uzbekistan, who took up his post a few weeks ago.
Uzbekistan is in the center of Central Asia. In 1991, the US welcomed this former Soviet Republic into the club of democracies, but China and Russia are its major trading partners. This makes for interesting dynamics.
In 1993, Ambassador Sidikov graduated from Tashkent State Technical University. He speaks English and Russian.
Ambassador Sidikov started his career in business but quickly moved to the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan. He represented Uzbekistan as First Secretary in Washington and as Ambassador in Pakistan. Then, within the Uzbekistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he rose from Deputy Minister to First Deputy Minister.
Ambassador Sidikov and his wife have four children. The June 7 Dinner was our last meeting of the program year.
