In September, we were honored to welcome Ambassador Elsie S. Kanza, who captivated our members with an enlightening lecture on Tanzania’s economic development and its pivotal role in shaping the future of Africa. Ambassador Kanza shared insights from her extensive and distinguished career, offering a unique perspective on the progress, challenges, and opportunities facing her country and the African continent as a whole.

As an accomplished economist, Ambassador Kanza has held significant roles in the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Tanzania, where she contributed to shaping the nation’s fiscal policies. She also served as the Personal Assistant and Economic Advisor to His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, former President of Tanzania. Her work on international platforms began in 2011 when she joined the World Economic Forum, eventually becoming the Head of Africa and a member of the organization’s Executive Committee. Her dedication to redefining Africa’s economic narrative earned her recognition as one of Pan-Africa’s leading women by Forbes in 2020.

Born and raised in Kenya to Tanzanian parents, Ambassador Kanza holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the United States International University-Africa and advanced degrees in Finance and Development Economics from the University of Strathclyde, UK, and Williams College, USA, respectively.

Her lecture provided a comprehensive view of Tanzania’s strides in economic growth and the global stage it is carving for itself. We were privileged to host Ambassador Kanza, whose expertise and vision left an indelible impression on all in attendance.
