We learned about Cuba, a neighboring island nation which is often in the press, yet little understood. Our presenter was Ambassador Alejandro Garcia del Toro.
Ambassador Garcia took up the position of Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba to the United States in 2021.
He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Law Faculty at the University of Havana in 2001 and graduated from a Course of Diplomatic Attaches at the Highest Institute of International Relations (Havana) in 2003
Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he advanced from Official at the Legal Division (2005-2006) to Official at the United States General Division (2011-2015) to Director of Analysis and Legal Affairs of the United States General Division (2015-2019). His overseas career started when he was Diplomatic Attache at the Cuban Interests Section in Washington, D.C. (2001-2005). He then advanced to Second Secretary at the Cuban Interests Section in Washington, D.C. (2001-2011). From 2019 to 2021 he was the Ambassador of Cuba to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
